FG Sets 16 as Minimum Admission Age for Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Government has formally declared 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the opening of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Dr Alausa emphasized that the 16-year age limit is final and non-negotiable, warning institutions against violating the directive.

He also cautioned that any admission conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal. Individuals and institutions found culpable would face legal consequences.

The Minister further stressed that heads of institutions involved in admission malpractices would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
