FEC approves construction of judges’ residences in FCT, Maitama 2 infrastructure
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved several key projects for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including the construction of official residences for heads of federal courts, expansion of water supply to satellite towns, and the development of engineering infrastructure for the new Maitama 2 District.
Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this while briefing journalists after Thursday’s FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja
According to Wike, the Council approved the design and construction of residences for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the National Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court.
He explained that the housing project, which had earlier been flagged off, is part of efforts to provide dignified accommodation for heads of the judiciary within the capital.
In addition, FEC approved the extension of water supply to satellite towns including Karu, Karshi, Orozo, and Bwari. Wike noted that this was in fulfillment of President Tinubu’s promise to expand the Greater Abuja Water Project to underserved areas.
“You will recall that Mr. President recently inaugurated part of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project and promised to extend it to the satellite towns. That process has now been approved, and by the grace of God, we expect it to be inaugurated by May next year,” he said.
The Council also ratified the rehabilitation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which was upgraded under an emergency contract ahead of the inauguration of the ECOWAS Parliament earlier this year.
Wike stated that the most significant approval of the day was for the construction of engineering infrastructure for the Maitama 2 District, covering over 786 hectares of land
