Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko, has dismissed claims suggesting he is eyeing the vice-presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released by his media aide, Abdallah El-Kurebe, Wamakko described a report titled “2027 Aspirations: Northern Leaders Urged to Support Wamakko” as misleading and unauthorized.

The report had attributed calls for Wamakko’s candidacy to the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Abdullahi Yerima.

El-Kurebe clarified that Senator Wamakko has never expressed—either publicly or privately—any intention to contest for the office of Vice President or engage in any related political arrangement.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Senator Wamakko has never publicly or privately expressed interest in contesting for the position of Vice President in the 2027 general elections. Any suggestion to the contrary is false, baseless, and utterly irresponsible,” the statement read.

He went on to describe Yerima’s comments as “reckless political mischief” designed to mislead the public and drag Senator Wamakko into unwarranted political speculation.

Wamakko is now demanding a public retraction and formal apology from Yerima, urging him to refrain from any further actions that could damage his reputation or misrepresent his political position.

As of the time of this report, Abdullahi Yerima has not responded to the senator’s demand.
