EFCC Raids Hotels, Apartments In Delta Communities, Arrests 46 Suspected Internet Fraudsters

 

The operation was carried out at different hotels and apartments on Sunday, an authoritative source confirmed to SaharaReporters on Monday.

 

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have conducted a sting operation on Osubi and Ugolo in the Okpe Local Government Area of Delta state, Southern Nigeria, apprehending individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud.

 

The operation was carried out at different hotels and apartments on Sunday, an authoritative source confirmed to SaharaReporters on Monday.

SaharaReporters also gathered that the operatives arrested several suspected internet fraudsters and visitors who lodged in the hotels during the operation.

 

“The EFCC operatives stormed Osubi and Ugolo raided apartments and hotels where they alleged that fraudsters had hibernated and arrested some of them, including visitors who lodged in the hotels.

 

“The places they carried out the operation include Cletano hotel, Fairview apartments, Bright v apartments, Luxe mirage hotel and 10/10 apartments,” the source said.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC Head of Media & Publicity on Monday confirmed the operation to SaharaReporters, noting that 46 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested.

 

He said, “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Sunday August 8, 2024 arrested 46 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations within Warri, Deta State.

 

“They were arrested following credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet- related fraud.

 

“Items recovered from them include 13 exotic cars, laptops and phones.”

 

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale added.
