EFCC Arrests Seven Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Abuja, Recovers Luxury Cars, Gadgets

The latest development underscores the EFCC’s renewed efforts to tackle cybercrime, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo,” which continues to affect Nigeria’s global image and digital economy.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of seven suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, as part of its ongoing clampdown on cybercrimes across the country.

The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, June 19, in coordinated operations carried out by EFCC operatives in the Lifecamp and Kubwa areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following actionable intelligence linking them to fraudulent online activities.

According to a press statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, the raid led to the recovery of several luxury items, including eight high-end vehicles, premium laptop computers, and sophisticated mobile phones believed to have been used in perpetrating the crimes.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded,” Oyewale stated.

The EFCC has recently intensified its operations against internet fraudsters nationwide, making numerous arrests and securing several convictions.

The Commission said it urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious online activities.
