EFCC arrests 54 internet fraudsters in Rivers, Adamawa

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 54 suspected internet fraudsters in separate operations in Rivers and Adamawa states.

In a statement posted on X.com on Wednesday, the EFCC disclosed that 33 suspects were apprehended at their hideouts around the Iwofe and Ogboro areas in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The sting operation, carried out by the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, was reportedly based on credible intelligence gathered by the commission.

“Items recovered from the suspects include various mobile phone devices, laptops, boxes of fake United States dollars, fake Federal Bureau of Investigation stamps, Customs stamps, airport clearance stamps, DHL and FedEx stamps, and two cars,” the statement revealed.

Meanwhile, in Yola, Adamawa State, 21 suspected internet fraudsters were reportedly arrested on Tuesday at different locations around Modibo Adamawa University.

Items recovered at the points of arrest included 13 phones, 12 Android phones, one laptop, and one tablet.

The EFCC added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

PUNCH Online reported earlier that operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC arrested 24 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations within Benin City on Monday.
