Deputy Inspector-General Of Police Joins APC Weeks After Retirement, Seeks To Contest For Senate

The former Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Ari Muhammed Ali, who was retired only in March 2025, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is seeking to contest for the Senate in the 2027 general elections, SaharaReporters has learnt.
Retired DIG Ari Muhammed Ali had been discharged from service by the controversial Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who himself is due for retirement but has refused to quit the police force.
SaharaReporters gathered that DIG Ari Muhammed has joined the APC party and is now eyeing a senatorial seat by 2027.
He had been discharged from service alongside DIGs Dasuki Galandachi, Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, Jonathan Towuru (representing the South-South geopolitical zone), Suleiman Yusuf, Banji Lawal Badru, and Bala Ciroma over allegations of age falsification and violations of service rules.
“Ari Mohammed is equally contesting for Senate under APC in the Nasarawa South,” a top source revealed to SaharaReporters on Saturday.
In Nasarawa, retired DIG Ari Muhammed seems to be following the footsteps of a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohanmed Abubakar Adamu, who retired in 2021 and has also expressed his governorship ambition for the state ahead pf the 2027 general elections.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that Adamu officially declared his intention to run for Nasarawa State governorship in the 2027 general elections on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
Adamu, who served as IGP from 2019 to 2021 under the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, had made his declaration during a meeting with members of the State Working Committee of the APC held in Lafia.
The former IGP had said his decision was driven by a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa.
According to him, the people believe in his leadership capabilities and experience.
Adamu pledged to run an all-inclusive and people-oriented administration if elected as governor.
“I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward.
“My administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors,” Adamu stated.
Meanwhile, his declaration has added a significant name to the growing list of aspirants eyeing the governorship seat in 2027.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, the incumbent governor, is serving his second term in office under the APC.
