Court Jails Another Batch Of Chinese Nationals For Cyber-Terrorism, Internet Fraud in Lagos
The convictions were handed down by two judges of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos—Justice Chukwuemeka Aneke and Justice Dehinde Dipeolu.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, on Friday, July 18, 2025, secured the conviction and sentencing of nine Chinese nationals over cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.
The convictions were handed down by two judges of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos—Justice Chukwuemeka Aneke and Justice Dehinde Dipeolu
According to the EFCC, “The suspects are: Deng Wen Quang, Lin Jin, Shi Yang Xiong, Lu Yong Yao, Yang Chen Cheng, Feng Li Cai, Li Niue, Li Kuang Kuang and Dan Jia (a.k.a. Bu Fan).”
The accused were arraigned on separate charges bordering on cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.
One of the charges read: “That you, Yang Chen Cheng, on or about the 11th of December 2024, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, willfully caused to be accessed, computer systems organized to seriously destabilise and destroy the fundamental economic and social structure of Nigeria when you procured/employed Nigerian youths for identity theft and to hold themselves out as persons of foreign nationality, with the intent to gain financial advantage for yourselves and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015 (As amended 2024).”
They all pleaded “guilty” to the charges when they were read to them.
Following their pleas, the prosecution team —comprising M.K. Bashir, Babatunde Sonoiki, and B.M. Isha — urged the court to convict the defendants and order the forfeiture of all items recovered from them.
The judges consequently found them guilty and convicted them.
“All the convicts were sentenced to one year imprisonment, with a fine of N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira),” the EFCC stated.
In addition, the court ordered the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure the convicts are repatriated to their country of origin within seven days of completing their sentences.
“All items recovered from them were ordered forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.”
Previously , SaharaReporters reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the conviction and sentencing of 15 Chinese nationals for crimes bordering on cyberterrorism and internet fraud in Lagos.
According to a statement also released by the EFCC, the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 successfully prosecuted the suspects before two Federal High Court Judges sitting in Ikoyi — Justice Ayokunle Faji and Justice Dehinde Dipeolu.
“The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of 15 Chinese, for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud before two Federal High Court Judges sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos; Justice Ayokunle Faji and Justice Dehinde Dipeolu,” the EFCC said.
The convicted individuals were identified as: Ling Yang, Xiao Hong Will, Wang Zheng Ming, Wang Jia Qi, Yang Sheng, Peng Sen Lin, Guo Xiao Fei, Chen An Shun, Peng Sen Lin, Zhao Ying Bin, Yu Zi aka Wei Xue Huan, Zhang Yang, Wang Zhi Cheng, Yang Sheng, and Lu Yubo.
The suspects were arraigned on separate charges bordering on cyber-terrorism and internet fraud,” the commission added.
