Taraba State civil servants on Tuesday called on Governor Agbu Kefas to immediately sack the Accountant General of the state, Mr. Gauis Danjuma, and the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Sera Enock Adi, of their appointments.

The workers made the demand while speaking with journalists on the second day of the ongoing strike, expressing disappointment over alleged irregularities in the civil servants’ biometric verification exercise, which they said removed over 7,000 names including those of Directors and Deputy Directors from the payroll.

They urged the governor to replace the duo with competent individuals who could repair the damage caused by the exercise and prevent a recurrence.

Tribune Online reports that in June 2025, the Taraba State government, through the office of the Accountant General, and organised by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Sera Enock, with coordination by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Haruna Abdulkadir, conducted a biometric verification exercise for civil servants, declaring more than 7,000 people as ghost workers.

Tribune also reports that organised labour unions in the state the NLC and TUC on Monday declared an indefinite strike to protest the alleged anomalies and demand immediate correction.

During the strike compliance monitoring tour in Jalingo, the workers described the development as a “pure display of incompetence” on the part of both the Accountant General and the Commissioner for Finance, insisting on their removal.

“This is the first time since the creation of Taraba that this kind of mess has happened.

“We want the immediate sack of both the Accountant General and the Commissioner for Finance for lack of competence. This strike is to draw the attention of the governor to do the right thing. The biometric exercise conducted is trash the worst ever in the history of Taraba.

“After the biometric exercise, many workers encountered shortfalls in their salaries.

“The exercise is an embarrassing disaster that is portraying Taraba negatively on the global map of gross incompetence, posing a national danger to the future of its citizens. We say no to that.

“The governor should remove the Accountant General and the Finance Commissioner and ensure that the right thing is done,” the workers insisted.
