CHANGING AMBITIONS TO SABOTAGE ILAJE PEOPLE AND THE APC PARTY IN ONDO STATE

It was surprising and politically embarrassing to witness a politician, who had benefited greatly from the APC party, switch to another political party after losing a governorship primary election in Ondo State. Despite his history with the party, including being appointed as chairman of Osopadec and later as a commissioner representing Ondo State on the board of NDDC, allegations of corruption cut his tenure short. His departure raises concerns about his intentions, especially regarding the upcoming governorship election.

While it is acceptable for politicians to have ambitions, it is crucial that these ambitions serve the greater good rather than personal interests. Unfortunately, it appears that Barrister Gbenga Edema’s ambitions are aimed at undermining the APC party and its members’ interests, particularly in light of the impending governorship election.

It is disheartening to see someone like Barrister Gbenga Edema, who has benefited significantly from the APC party, turn against it. Despite holding positions like former Osopadec chairman and Ondo State commissioner for NDDC, his impact on the lives of the Ilaje people remains questionable. His recent actions indicate a betrayal of the party that provided him with opportunities for advancement.

Following the governorship primary elections in Ondo State, some aggrieved aspirants, including Gbenga Edema, pursued legal action. However, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim withdrew his suit against the incumbent Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa after pressure from various political figures, including traditional leaders and Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Withdrawing lawsuits was expected to promote unity within the APC party ahead of the upcoming election, not prompt defections for personal gain.

Some aspirants’ intentions seem to be causing chaos within the APC party to benefit the opposition, notably the PDP. Reports suggest collusion between certain aspirants and the PDP candidate to destabilize the APC party before defecting. Such actions must be resisted to maintain the party’s integrity.

It is unjust for individuals like Barrister Gbenga Edema and his allies to plot against the APC party for their own interests, especially when many party members have yet to benefit from their contributions. Their greed should not overshadow the party’s collective goals and progress.

The Ilaje nation should take a stand against Barrister Gbenga Edema’s departure from the APC party following his loss in the primary election. His actions, along with his supporters, deserve open condemnation. Edema’s apparent goal is to split Ilaje votes and sow political discord among the people.

Despite benefiting from the APC for nearly eight years, he now appears willing to collaborate with the opposition, falsely claiming to join the NNPP. His true motive seems to be undermining Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa’s support in Ilaje. Such behaviour must be unequivocally denounced, and people should openly express their disapproval.
