Chairman’s Cup Gets Green Light as Akoko North West Football Council Meets LG Boss

The Executive Leadership of the Akoko North West Football Council, on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Akoko North West Local Government Area, Ondo State, Hon. Esan Owolabi, at his office. The delegation, led by the newly elected chairman of the council, Coach Aarinola Sina, was there to familiarise themselves with the council boss and present their developmental plans for grassroots football in the region.

Coach Aarinola Sina, who assumed office in March 2025, shared his vision for football development in Akoko North West, outlining several initiatives aimed at engaging the youth and fostering community unity through sports.

Key among his proposals was a request for office space within the local government secretariat to enable the Football Association to carry out its operations effectively. He also presented a comprehensive outline for the 2025/2026 football season, which includes the Local Government Chairman’s Cup, the Akoko North West Oba’s Cup, and the Akoko Unity Cup.

In his response, Chairman Esan Owolabi congratulated Coach Sina and his team on their emergence in the recent FA elections and expressed delight at their proactive approach to sports development.

He assured the council of his willingness to support their initiatives, affirming that youth empowerment through sports aligns with his administration’s campaign promises to take youths off the streets and engage them meaningfully. He also pledged to consider their request for office space and committed to sponsoring the Chairman’s Cup.

Coach Aarinola Sina, visibly elated, expressed gratitude to the chairman for the warm reception and his commitment to grassroots football. He noted that the Chairman’s Cup will serve as a tool to curb youth restiveness, reduce unemployment, and promote peace and unity in the area.

The visit concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
