Catholic priest distributes 100 sewing machines, 20 bikes, cash grants in Ebonyi
A joyous celebration erupted on January 16, 2025, at Ikpomkpuma village, in Umuogudu Oshia community of Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as Rev. Fr. Peter Okwoeze Omogo marked the 20th anniversary of his priestly ordination.
The event was filled with happiness, gratitude, and spontaneous outbursts of emotion as Fr. Omogo distributed 100 sewing machines, 20 motorcycles, and cash grants to needy beneficiaries, free of charge.
The recipients, comprising seamstresses and tailors from across Ebonyi State, were overwhelmed with joy, with many shedding tears of gratitude.
This act of generosity was not an isolated incident, as Fr. Omogo had also donated 50 sewing machines, 15 motorcycles, and millions of naira to needy individuals in January 2024.
South-East PUNCH reports that the celebration was a testament to Fr. Omogo’s commitment to empowering his community and spreading joy and kindness.
In his homily during the Thanksgiving Mass, Rev. Fr. Jude Nsodikwa, a product of the Holy Trinity College, Ngbo, founded by Fr. Omogo in 2005 and who incidentally is a beneficiary of a motorcycle, described the 20 years of Fr. Omogo’s ministerial priesthood as years of putting smiles on many faces.
He said, “Fr Omogo has shown that he is different, a priest with a heart of God. He has shown that African priest doesn’t always seeks to collect from their flocks, but they also empower their followers.
“In our clime today, the priest appears to be seeking to collect always from followers, but Fr Omogo has proven that it’s not always the case.”
One of the beneficiaries of motorcycles, Rev. Fr. JohnPaul Eselu, who doubles as the Editor-in-Chief of the Diocesan Citizens’ Advocate Newspaper, changed the name of Fr. Omogo to Fr. Omeogo (Doer of Good) to illustrate his kindness.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries of the motorcycles were mostly his fellow priests working in the rural areas without access roads. One of the motorcycles was gifted to the Diocesan printing press to ease the circulation of the Citizens’ Advocate Newspaper. Among the motorcycle beneficiaries is also Twins and Multiple Births Care Foundation.
Rev. Fr. Omogo began his humanity with the corporal work of “giving water to the thirsty” in Ebonyi State since 2012.
On the second Thursday of January every year, all roads from various villages of Ebonyi State usually led to Ikpomkpuma, Umuogudu Oshia, Ngbo – the country home of Rev. Fr. Dr. Peter Omogo – in search of potable water.
In 2019, he led a 9-man WASH Committee from Eguhuo-Ezzagu to submit an ‘Application for Borehole.’ The USA-based reverend gentleman, who was beaming with his usual charming smiles patiently and relentlessly attended to all the people from over 98 villages from across Ebonyi State and beyond.
According to one of the strongest supporters and volunteers of SOF, Mr. George Umeh, “God is mightily using Fr. Omogo to save lives and give life as water is life. Fr., thank you for your benevolence. Humanity will not forget you in a hurry.”
Others who testified to the good works of Fr Omogo include Bernard Otubo, who said, “Fr is a blessing to mankind. I was overwhelmed by what I saw he was doing all around our state. The crowd of people in his house on Thursday, January 10, 2019, was something else. He took pains to attend to everyone. May God Almighty bless him more and more.”
Others are John Chidiebere, Nathaniel Nwankwo, Don Pedro Ani, Kennedy Ogba, David Elom and Dùru Chigozie.
Chidiebere said, “God is truly blessing lives through him. Greater you I pray Father.”
Nwankwo said, “Let the pastors who are after their pocket hear it and emulate this man of God, and our society will be a better place. God bless you, padre
Ani enthused, “If we have more of his kind, I think the world will be a better place. God bless Fr Omogo.”
Ogba described the priest as “a real gift to humanity. Thank God for him.”
Elom said, “Padre, well done, more power to your disposition to salvage our situation.”
Chigozie described Fr Omogo as “Practical Christianity in action. “He is a blessing to humanity. His pocket will never run dry.”
Checks by South-East PUNCH revealed that through the Samuel Omogo Foundation, Fr. Peter Omogo has sunk/drilled more than 500 boreholes for over three million inhabitants of Ebonyi State and beyond.
Aside from providing potable (clean) water for Ebonyi people, Fr. Omogo has incorporated annual empowerment programs into the activities of the Samuel Omogo Foundation through which hundreds of sewing machines, tens of motorcycles, laptop computers, building materials, educational packs, foodstuffs and non-refundable cash gifts had been given free of charge to the needy and less-privileged members of our society.
