The title of a farmer fits him like a second skin, literally and figuratively. Apart from his avowed commitment to ensuring food sufficiency and food security in Niger State, making food affordable, available and accessible, His Excellency, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has beautifully turned Niger State into a garden lushly vegetated with dividends of democracy and good governance.

Under this fruitful collaboration, cash transfer of N100,000, laptops, POS machines, and phones have been given to 5,000 beneficiaries, and the impact speaks volume.

The foresighted farmer facilitated the distribution of one trailer load of rice to 21 local government areas of Niger State while Kontagora, Chanchaga, Suleja and Bida Local Government Areas received two trailer load of rice respectively.

Governor Bago is a consultant in cushioning hardship and ameliorating suffering. That has been expressed in his cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal, where palliatives were distributed in Niger State this: 274 wards in Niger State where each ward in 21 local government areas got N10 million, with Kontagora, Chanchaga, Suleja and Bida recieving N20 million each. The traditional institutions got N80 million Naira, IDPs had N75 million, organized labour had N110 million while the political parties received N150 million.

The incurable humanitarian has equally distributed food items to 700 households with 13,000bags of grains to IDPs while N100,000 each was disbursed to 250 vulnerable elderly citizens through the office of the First Lady.

This is in addition to the feeding of 559,903 school children with nutritious meals on a daily basis under the Niger State School Feeding Programme plus the distribution of food items to 3,000 victims of terrorism.

Farmer Bago’s effort is being supported by the good work of the office of the First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago who is doing marvelous things for the orphanage, less privileged and those in correctional centres as well as for maternal and child care health.

All of these are in addition to Governor Bago’s effort at aggressive ongoing urban renewal and infrastructural development, commitment to the inclusive education of the children effort at ending insecurity, a revolutionised economy, economic stimulation for job and wealth creation.

This necessitated his signing of a ten year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bayer AG on Agricultural Revolution in Niger State. Bayer AG is a renowned world’s largest multinational pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agriculture companies headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany.

He is not found wanting in any department of good governance. That is seen in the significant improvement of the internally generated revenue of Niger State to complement the allocation from federal government, which has been judiciously deployed to the development and welfare of Niger State.
