APC affirms primaries, presents certificate of return to Ukachukwu

The All Progressives Congress has endorsed the report of the Anambra State Governorship primary election and confirmed Nicholas Ukachukwu as the candidate for the November 8 election.

In a statement issued to journalists following the National Working Committee’s meeting on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, declared the primary to be a fair, credible, and transparent election.

In the statement, the APC called on all stakeholders, especially the other aspirants and their supporters, to unite and work towards ensuring the party’s success in the governorship election.

The statement read in part, “The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, considered and approved the report of the Party’s Anambra State Governorship Primary Election.

“The Primary Election Committee, under the Chairmanship of Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Bassey Otu, in its report, declared Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu the winner of the election with 1,455 votes.

“At Wednesday’s NWC meeting, the Party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, thanked the Governor Bassey Otu-led Primary Election Committee for delivering a fair, credible and transparent election.

“Presenting the APC Certificate of Return to Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Dr. Ganduje charged all stakeholders, particularly the other aspirants and their supporters, to work for the Party’s victory in the November 8, 2025, Anambra state gubernatorial election.”

Recall that on Sunday, Ukachukwu was selected as the APC candidate for the Anambra State governorship election, securing the party’s ticket.

The results, announced by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, revealed a decisive victory for Ukachukwu.

Ukachukwu received 1,455 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor, Valentine Ozigbo, who earned 67 votes. Johnbosco Onunkwo garnered 26 votes, while Edozie Madu received eight votes. Additionally, there were 26 invalid votes in the primary, which began on Saturday.

As a result, Valentine Ozigbo, a candidate in the recently concluded governorship primary, has lodged a complaint with the party’s Appeals Committee regarding the conduct of the election.

Ozigbo, who recently switched from the Labour Party to the APC, issued a statement on Tuesday, calling the APC governorship primary a “fraud and charade
