Another Council Chairman Suspended

The Legislative Council of Bida Local Government Area in Niger State has suspended its Chairman, Hon. Bala Shaba, over alleged non-compliance with official directives.

The council had previously sent letters to the Chairman on September 30 and October 2, 2025, requesting documentation on several administrative matters.
These included approval for absorbing EFASOFT following the termination of their services in 2024, submission of council minutes, approvals, and statements of account from 2023 to date, as well as records of at least five key achievements since the Chairman assumed office.
“The Executive Chairman’s failure to comply with these demands constitutes a breach of his duties and responsibilities, and therefore, it is resolved that the Executive Chairman be and is hereby suspended forthwith, pending further investigation and possible impeachment proceedings,” the resolution stated.
The suspension received backing from eleven ward councillors, including Shafii Mohammed Liman, Leader of the House; Yahaya Mohammed Maiyaki, Deputy Leader; Salisu Baba Mohammed, Majority Leader; Aboulateef Moh’d Waziri, Chief Whip; Mohammed Wada, Deputy Whip; and councillors Mohammed Nagya, Umar Mohammed, Ishaku Ndakolo Abubakar, Alhaji Nma Sarkin Kudu, Idris Musa, and Mohammed Isah Zubairu.
Reports indicated that only two councillors, Salihu Mohammed Bala and Ahmed Musa, did not sign the suspension letter.
The action comes ahead of the Niger State local government elections, scheduled for November 1, 2025, which include elections for Bida Local Government.
The Legislative Council emphasised that the suspension is intended to reinforce transparency, accountability, and proper documentation in the local government’s operations.
