Anambra PDP Governorship Candidate Jude Ezenwafor Survives Gun Attack In Abuja

Mr. Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State election, has survived a brazen gun attack by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Abuja.

SaharaReporters can confirm that Ezenwafor is still alive but is still receiving treatment in the hospital. He was shot multiple times in the legs late Friday night in the Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory while returning from a private appointment.

SaharaReporters gathered that Ezenwafor, who is also a prominent real estate developer based in Abuja, sustained several gunshot wounds and is undergoing treatment at an undisclosed private hospital.

Two other individuals who were with him in the same vehicle also sustained injuries in the coordinated attack and are receiving medical care.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as of press time. No group has claimed responsibility, and the identities of the assailants are still unknown. Security agencies are said to have launched an investigation into the incident, but no official arrests have been made.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, was not reachable when contacted for comments.

Ezenwafor had earlier emerged unopposed as the PDP’s candidate for the upcoming Anambra governorship poll, following months of internal power tussles and negotiations within the party’s state chapter. His candidacy was widely viewed as part of the PDP’s effort to reclaim political relevance in the state after years of dwindling influence.

PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described the attack as a politically motivated plot by desperate individuals unsettled by Ezenwafor’s rising popularity.

“After a critical analysis of the violent incident, the PDP believes that certain interests who, ostensibly being uncomfortable with the growing popularity of the PDP candidate ahead of the November election are desperate to prevent him from participating in the coming poll,” the statement said.

The opposition party also disclosed that it had received intelligence on other schemes aimed at tarnishing the image of its candidate through orchestrated smear campaigns.

“Our Party has also been made aware of other plots by some anti-democratic elements in Anambra State to commence a series of smear campaigns against our candidate following the failure of the assassination plot,” the party added.

Describing the attack as a reflection of the country’s deteriorating security situation, the PDP blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it called “overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless” leadership.

“This attack on the PDP candidate is another sad commentary on the alarming level of insecurity in the country under the overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC) administration,” the statement read.

The party, however, declared that the attempt on Ezenwafor’s life would not deter its resolve, nor would it stop the candidate from contesting and winning the election.

The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police to arrest the attackers and their sponsors and ensure the safety of its candidate ahead of the election.
