AKOKO NORTHWEST CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION 2025:
Chairman Owolabi Warns Against Bullying, Assures Youth Empowerment

Parents and children gathered in large numbers at Akoko Northwest Local Government Area, Ondo State, to mark the 2025 Children’s Day in a grand and memorable manner.

Observed annually on May 27 across Nigeria, Children’s Day is set aside to honor the importance of children in nation-building and to prepare them for future leadership roles.

This year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” addressed the growing concern of bullying, especially in cyberspace.

Delivering his address at the event, the Executive Chairman of Akoko Northwest, Hon. Esan Owolabi, congratulated the children and praised youths in the local government for their active contributions to the community’s development. He urged parents and teachers to be vigilant and monitor their children’s activities both at home and at school.

Chairman Owolabi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to guiding, supporting, and providing opportunities for children to thrive. “Children are the future, hope, and dreams of any society. We must cherish, nurture, and empower them with the necessary tools for visionary leadership,” he stated.

He also cautioned youths against engaging in bullying, noting that it is a serious offense under the law. “Desist from any form of bullying. Focus on your education and use your time wisely,” he advised.

On behalf of the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Hon. Owolabi expressed gratitude to the people of Akoko Northwest for their continued support and urged them to sustain the peace and harmony in the area.

The celebration also featured goodwill messages from dignitaries, including HRM Oba Arasanyin, the Ajana of Okeagbe Akoko, who commended the chairman’s developmental strides and encouraged the children to be worthy ambassadors of the local government in whatever roles they occupy in the future.

Towards the end of the event, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) delivered a vote of thanks, appreciating all stakeholders for their support.

Highlighting the day’s festivities, schools that participated in the match-past were rewarded with valuable prizes by the Local Government Chairperson, Mrs. Grace Owolabi, in recognition of their contributions to community development.
