AKOKO NORTHWEST CHAIRMAN GRACES PRESENTATION OF STAFF OF OFFICE TO OLUDAJA OF DAJA, AJOWA AKOKO
Ajowa Community witnessed another historic moment as the Oludaja of Daja in Ajowa Akoko, His Royal Majesty, Oba Yayah Olawale Obaniyi, was formally installed and presented with the Staff of Office as the new custodian and traditional ruler of the community.
The vacancy in the Oludaja Chieftaincy of Daja, Ajowa Akoko—under the jurisdiction of Akoko Northwest Local Government—occurred on April 19, 2017.
In line with the provisions of Section 8 of the Chiefs’ Law, 1984 (as amended by No. 4 of 1999) and the customary laws guiding the selection of the Oludaja of Daja, the Oyagi family endorsed the candidacy of Oba Yayah Olawale Obaniyi on June 24, 2025. His appointment was officially made on Monday, August 11, 2025, and subsequently approved by the Ondo State Executive Council in accordance with Section 11 of the Chiefs’ Law, 1984 (as amended).
The presentation ceremony was officiated by the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Takuro, alongside the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
Governor Aiyedatiwa congratulated the new monarch, describing him as a peace-loving leader and the choice of both the ancestors and people of Daja. He urged the Oludaja to be a symbol of tolerance, an agent of peace, and a ruler who leads by example.
The APC Local Government Chairman, Hon. Kehinde Obanla, also congratulated the monarch, wishing him a peaceful and prosperous reign.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government, Hon. Model Esan Owolabi JP, rejoiced with the monarch, describing him as “the lucky one” and praising his proactive, dependable, and reliable nature. He encouraged the Oludaja to rule with wisdom and understanding, noting that the ceremony marked a significant milestone for both the monarch and the entire Daja community.
Chairman Owolabi expressed appreciation to the Governor for sustaining peace and initiating developmental projects across the state. He further urged the people of Daja to rally around the government to attract more dividends of democracy to the area.
The event was graced by top government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, and well-wishers from far and near.
