AKOKO NORTHWEST ARTISANS VISIT CHAIRMAN OWOLABI, SEEK STRONGER COLLABORATION
The Executive Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government, Hon. Esan Owolabi, has reiterated his commitment to supporting and enhancing the efficiency of local artisans as part of his administration’s broader development agenda for the area.
Chairman Owolabi made this known during a courtesy and familiarization visit by the leadership of various artisan associations in the local government, who were warmly received at the Council Secretariat.
During the visit, the artisans congratulated the chairman on his election victory and expressed renewed confidence in his leadership. They also appealed for strengthened collaboration with the council, particularly in areas that would enhance their productivity and general welfare.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the artisans pledged their full support to the local government, especially in the area of tax compliance. “Mr. Chairman, we are here to assure you of our readiness to support your administration by paying our taxes. We understand the importance of tax to development and we are prepared to meet our obligations without being coerced,” the delegation stated.
They further appealed to the chairman to provide empowerment opportunities and necessary equipment that would enable them to function more effectively in their various trades.
In his response, Hon. Owolabi thanked the artisan leaders for their visit and their demonstrated commitment to the progress of the local government. He emphasized the crucial role of tax compliance in governance and development, noting that low tax compliance remains a major challenge in Nigeria’s economic structure.
“Payment of taxes is a civic responsibility that enables the government to provide basic amenities and services. I appreciate your willingness to comply and assure you that my administration is committed to ensuring that the benefits of governance are evenly distributed,” he said.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of residents and strengthening productive partnerships with stakeholders across the local government.
The visiting artisan delegation included representatives from the Hairdressers Association, the Deputy State Chairman for Mechanics, the Plumbing Association, the Musicians’ Union, the Tailors’ Association PRO, and the Leather Workers’ Secretary.
