state Government Acquires Eight Armoured Vehicles to Tackle Insecurity
The Katsina State Government has taken delivery of eight new armoured vehicles to strengthen its fight against banditry and other security challenges across the state.
Acting Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe announced the development after a State Security Council meeting on Saturday, stressing that the vehicles would boost the operational capacity and mobility of security forces in vulnerable areas.
Jobe described last week’s bandit attack in Gidan Mantau, Karfi Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area, where several worshippers were killed, as “sad and unfortunate.” He, however, reaffirmed government’s determination to protect lives and property, noting that significant investments had been made in security infrastructure, personnel training, and community watch initiatives.
According to him, four of the state’s frontline LGAs — Jibia, Batsari, Safana, and Dan Musa — have already recorded improved security due to community vigilance and local collaboration.
“The battle against banditry is not over until it is won,” Jobe said. “We will not be distracted by the cowardly actions of criminals who attack innocent citizens. We commend the courage of local communities who resisted and overpowered the attackers.”
The acting governor disclosed that 76 kidnapped persons were rescued on Saturday morning, in addition to others who escaped during recent abduction attempts. He added that the federal government was also stepping up support, with the Chief of Army Staff expected in Katsina on Sunday for an on-the-spot security assessment.
Jobe further emphasised the need for continuous collaboration with the Nigerian Army and Air Force due to the difficult terrain, assuring residents that the government would sustain security operations until peace is fully restored.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, also briefed journalists after the meeting, expressing condolences to victims of recent attacks and praising the coordinated response of security agencies.
