Nigerian Police Debunk Viral ‘Wanted’ Poster On Nollywood Actress Iyabo Ojo, Call It Fake
In a statement issued on Thursday, tagged “Clarification on Police Gazette Bulletin of Wanted Person,” the Force Headquarters described the publication as fake and unofficial, stressing that it did not originate from the police.
The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a Wanted Person Bulletin circulating on social media, which claimed that popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, was declared wanted by the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit.
In a statement issued on Thursday, tagged “Clarification on Police Gazette Bulletin of Wanted Person,” the Force Headquarters described the publication as fake and unofficial, stressing that it did not originate from the police.
The police warned members of the public against falling for such misinformation, urging Nigerians to always verify sensitive security information from official police channels before sharing.
The statement reads; “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to clarify that the recent Wanted Person Bulletin circulating about stating that the Nollywood Actress, Iyabo Ojo is wanted by the Office of The IGP Monitoring Unit is NOT an official communication from the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges members of the public to verify information through official channels and be cautious of misinformation.”
The fake bulletin that Iyabo Ojo is wanted, which went viral across various platforms, had sparked outrage and confusion, with many questioning its authenticity.
This clarification comes amid growing concerns over the use of forged documents and fake press statements to smear public figures and mislead the public.
