Government Approves Salary Increment For Medical Doctors
The Bauchi State Government has approved the adjustment of salaries and allowances for medical doctors in its civil service to match the Federal Government’s pay structure.
The move is aimed at stopping the migration of health workers to federal health institutions for better pay and working conditions.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, said the decision followed Governor Bala Mohammed’s concern over the loss of doctors due to poor remuneration.
He stated that the harmonisation has been implemented and expressed hope that doctors who left the service would return.
He disclosed that over ₦872 million has been paid as counterpart funding to strengthen healthcare services, while ₦100 million was released as a matching grant for the Children’s Nutrition Fund to combat malnutrition in children under five.
The state has also fulfilled its financial obligations under its health partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Aliko Dangote Foundation, with talks underway to renew the agreement for another four years.
Mohammed noted improvements in immunisation coverage, reduction of zero-dose children in 13 local government areas, and the execution of key health interventions such as measles and rubella vaccination, maternal and child health services, family planning distribution, and birth registration.
He added that health facilities across the state are being fitted with solar power to improve electricity supply for better service delivery.
He praised the First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed, for her support towards healthcare development and assured that the state would keep working to reduce maternal and infant mortality through improved primary healthcare services.
