FG denies 12-year minimum age for secondary school admissions, reveals real official Age
The Federal Government has dismissed reports that it has changed the minimum age for students entering Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) in Nigeria.
This clarification came after a report made the rounds, alleging that students must now be at least 12 years old before they can be admitted into JSS1.
The Federal Ministry of Education has now made it clear that the existing policy remains unchanged
It declared children can begin JSS1 from the age of 10.
The Ministry stressed that the public should ignore the false report as it did not come from any official source.
It also explained that pupils should not complete primary school before the age of 10, as that is the earliest age approved for moving into junior secondary school.
In addition, the Ministry restated that the minimum age for entering any university in the country is still 16 years.
This rule is still in place regardless of how quickly a student finishes secondary school.
The government warned media outlets, schools, and the public to avoid spreading or acting on unverified information.
It urged everyone to always confirm such news through official channels.
