A NATION MOURNS A GIANT: HON. SHOLA OLOFIN MOURNS THE PASSING OF PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI
It is with a heavy and deeply reflective heart that Hon. Shola Olofin, Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Management Board and Convener of BAT Vanguard, mourns the passing of His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) — former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, elder statesman, and one of Africa’s most principled leaders.
On behalf of the NSITF Board and the entire BAT Vanguard family nationwide, Hon. Olofin extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, his family, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the millions of citizens whose lives he touched through honest leadership and quiet patriotism.
President Buhari was not just a former Head of State — he was the conscience of a nation. His life was defined by sacrifice, simplicity, and service. From the barracks to the ballot box, he upheld a reputation that no tribunal of history has ever stained. He neither stole nor enriched himself, and in doing so, he became a moral benchmark for leadership in Nigeria and beyond.
A foundational pillar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Buhari gave strength, structure, and credibility to the progressive movement. He led the APC to its historic victories in 2015 and 2019, and remained unwavering in his loyalty to its ideals until the very end. His open support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — both in principle and practice — remains a defining legacy of political trust and continuity.
Though his years in office may have passed, his impact never faded. From reforms in agriculture and national infrastructure to the establishment of the largest social investment programs on the continent, President Buhari left behind more than memories — he left a blueprint for responsible governance.
I join millions of Nigerians and friends of Nigeria around the world to mourn a man of quiet strength and incorruptible spirit. His death is not just a national loss — it is a generational one.
May Allah (SWT), the Most Merciful, forgive his shortcomings, reward his honesty, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Signed,
*Zachariah C. Hyellamada*
