The victim of the kidnap incident was subsequently rescued unhurt and had been reunited with his family.
The police in Delta State, South-South Nigeria, say they have killed two suspected kidnappers during an exchange of gunfire.

A statement on Tuesday by the state command’s spokesman DSP Edafe Bright, said the incident happened on December 30, 2023, at Ekakprame in the Ughelli South council area of the state.

Edafe said the victim of the kidnap incident was subsequently rescued unhurt and had been reunited with his family.

He said, “On December 30, 2023, the Command rescued a kidnapped victim who was taken in his brother’s vehicle along Jakpa Road.

“This feat was achieved when the CP Delta State directed the ever-combat-ready DPO Ekpan Division CSP Aliyu Shaba to embark on a technically generated intelligence-led operation and ensure that the victim is rescued and the suspects arrested.”

According to the statement, the DPO and his team trailed the kidnappers to a bush at Ekakprame in the Ughelli South LGA, where they had a shootout with the kidnappers.

“Two of the kidnappers were fatally wounded in the gun duel and gave up the ghost at the hospital.

“The victim was rescued unhurt, one double-barrel gun and two single-barrel guns were recovered,” Edafe said.

Among the rescued victims were three of the passengers travelling for the New Year’s celebrations who were kidnapped at Nde 3 Corners in the Ikom local government area of the state on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
