NANS breaks silence over Arrested Gunrunners In Osun
The National Association of Nigerian Students, Osun state chapter has de-associated itself from individuals arrested with guns in a Toyota Camry bearing a NANS-customised plate number.
In a press release by NANS Osun JCC, the association said the individuals arrested are not their former nor current members of the students’ body.
Osun State Police command earlier disclosed that some students with Toyota Camry bearing a NANS-customised plate number were with an English-made Barreta pistol, two empty magazines, a cutlass, and various charms.
Reacting to the police report, NANS Osun state in a press release said that the individuals arrested are not their former, nor current members of the association.

NANS JCC Osun Condemns Criminal Allegations, Affirms Commitment to Integrity

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun State Axis, strongly condemns the recent allegations linking criminal activities to individuals falsely identifying themselves as NANS comrades.
We wish to state unequivocally that comradeship is not, and must never be, a license for mediocrity or misconduct. As student leaders, we are committed to setting positive examples and upholding the values of integrity, advocacy, and responsibility.
We have consistently raised our voices against attempts by security agencies or the public to associate NANS with criminality. While our comrades are known for radicalism in the pursuit of justice and students’ rights, we are not criminals. We are advocates for students not lawbreakers.
It is no secret that false narratives are sometimes weaponized for personal or political gain. We are fully aware of the dangers such misinformation poses. In previous engagements with the police, FRSC, and other security agencies, we the leadership has taken steps to validate our members through proper documentation and the issuance of legitimate identification, including official plate numbers that is causing the recent issue .
We therefore call on the police and relevant authorities to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations. We also urge them to disassociate our association from any alleged wrongdoing.
We categorically reject all claims linking these alleged perpetrators to our association. None of them are current executives, recognized comrades, or former officials authorized to represent NANS or use its identification materials.
NANS JCC Osun remains committed to discipline, accountability, and the genuine representation of Nigerian students.
