A violent clash between Tiv farmers and Fulani herders in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State has left several people injured and properties worth millions destroyed.
The conflict erupted over a dispute at a shared pond between Tor Bali and Atongo villages. Tensions flared when a woman fetching water was allegedly assaulted by herders for confronting them about letting cattle drink from the source.
Council Chairman Aboki Dauda confirmed the incident, noting that the altercation quickly escalated. “Houses were burnt and people displaced, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.
A survivor, Ezekiel Gboo, recounted being attacked by about 30 men with sticks and machetes while on his farm.
Authorities have summoned herder leaders and issued warnings to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, the Taraba State Government dispatched a delegation, led by Commissioner Saviour Noku, to distribute relief materials and urge peace.
“It’s always cheaper to prevent conflict than to respond to it,” Noku told residents.
