Eid: Kano 15th emir cancels durbar celebration
The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has cancelled all plans for this year’s Eid durbar, citing security reasons.
This is in a statement signed by the Emirates Secretary, Malam Awaisu Abbas Sanusi who added that the decision was reached after due consultations.
He said the Emirate discussed with security personnel and other stakeholders, who cited a possibility of security breach from some unscrupulous elements.
Awaisu added that the decision to suspend all durbar plans was to safeguard the lives and properties of people of the state.
This is not the first time such a decision was taken.
A similar suspension was enforced during the last Eid-el-Fitr celebrations earlier this year, where processions were also halted for similar reasons.
The Emirate urged residents to continue praying for peace and stability in Kano and across Nigeria.
The announcement comes just as Kano state recognized Emirate, under Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II began preparations for Sallah activities despite police warning.
