Pavilion: Learn from collapse of basin badminton court, Ilorin Emirate group tells Kwara Govt

Kwara State Government has been urged not to bow to undue pressure to hurriedly approve the pavilion proposed for the palace in Ilorin except the facility meets all safety concerns and protocols.

This was stated in a press statement issued by the Ilorin Emirates Dynamic Youth Initiative President Mallam Ibrahim Ahmed and received by the Kwara News Update.

The palace of the Emir of Ilorin is a sacred place. Lives are involved each time people gather there in thousands. This is why anything that the government will approve for the place should meet all safety standards. We are calling on the government to approve the proposed pavilion only if its proponents satisfy the requirements,” the group said in the statement this Monday morning.

“We recall that just about two weeks ago, a badminton court built by the Lower Nigeria River Basin Development Authority in Ilorin suddenly collapsed, killed a young man and injured a few other persons. This is a recent project and its collapse may not unconnected to a lack of relevant approvals and proper quality assurance. We cannot allow another thing to happen.”

The group added that the Kwara State Geographic Information Service should insist on doing the right thing despite the blackmail from different quarters.

If anything happens, the people blackmailing the government will turn around to say that government is supposed to have stood firm and do the right thing for the safety of all. We urge KWGIS not to approve the pavilion if it doesn’t meet the safety concerns or follow established rules.”
