Executive Director of Agricultural Services Upper Benue River Development authority. Visits Dry Season Rice Farmers in Yola North, Adamawa State, to Strengthen Federal Support for Food Security
Yola, Adamawa State May 9, 2025: Hon. Dahiru Hammandiko the Executive Director Agricultural Services at the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA) in Yola, Adamawa State, visited Lake Gerio in Yola North today, where he engaged with dry season rice farmers in a show of solidarity and support. The visit was part of a familiarization tour aimed at aligning with the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to bolstering food security and supporting local farmers under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”
In his address to the farmers, Hon. Dan Kade highlighted the critical role that dry season farming plays in improving agricultural output, particularly in the cultivation of rice and other staple crops. He reiterated the federal government’s dedication to increasing support for dry season farming initiatives as part of its broader strategy to bridge the food gap, enhance local production, and ultimately improve food security across Nigeria.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, our focus is on ensuring that food is abundant and affordable for all Nigerians. This administration is committed to providing consistent and robust support to farmers, particularly those engaged in dry season farming, to help boost rice production and other essential food crops,” Hon. Hammadikko stated.
The visit also served as an opportunity to reassure the farmers of President Tinubu’s unwavering support in the long term. “We are here to assure you that the federal government will continue its efforts to support you until we achieve our goal of making food available for all Nigerians and ensuring that food prices are reduced to manageable levels,” he emphasized.
The Executive Director encouraged the farmers to remain steadfast and dedicated to their farming activities, stressing that the success of their work is key to boosting food production and meeting the growing demand of Nigeria’s population. He also pledged continued assistance to farmers, offering support in the form of increased agricultural inputs, technical resources, and other necessary interventions.
This visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to agricultural transformation and its determination to create a more food-secure nation, while providing essential backing to local farmers in their quest to increased production and reduce the nation’s dependence on food imports.
