US Government Confirms COVID-19 Virus Originated From Lab Leak In China
According to the allegation, this was done to promote the preferred narrative that COVID-19 originated naturally.
The United States, under President Donald Trump, alleged that COVID-19 originated from a lab leak in China. This claim is documented on the White House’s official website.
It is worth recalling that President Trump repeatedly stated he was right in asserting that the coronavirus originated from a Wuhan lab.
The White House also alleged that “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” publication — which was used repeatedly by public health officials and the media to discredit the lab leak theory — was prompted by Dr. Anthony Fauci.
According to the allegation, this was done to promote the preferred narrative that COVID-19 originated naturally.
Justifying its renewed claims, the Trump administration listed several reasons for its belief, including the assertion that:
“The virus possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature.”
It also argued that “data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans. This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events.”
Further implicating China, the U.S. noted that “Wuhan is home to China’s foremost SARS research lab, which has a history of conducting gain-of-function research (gene altering and organism supercharging) at inadequate biosafety levels.”
The administration also argued that “Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) researchers were sick with COVID-like symptoms in the fall of 2019, months before COVID-19 was discovered at the wet market.”
“By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin, it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t,” the U.S. publication noted.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and China. Both countries have been locked in a trade war, which has resulted in the imposition of tariffs — 145% by China and 245% by the United States — on goods imported from each other.
As of the time of this report, the Chinese government has yet to respond to the claims made by the Trump administration.
According to Worldometer, over 704 million cases of COVID-19 have been recorded worldwide, with more than seven million deaths.
The first known case of COVID-19 was discovered in China.
