EFCC arrests 37 over alleged internet fraud in Port Harcourt

Operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 37 individuals for alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in various locations across Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a sting operation codenamed Operation Eagle Sweep.

According to a statement posted on the EFCC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the arrests followed “credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences.”

The statement added that, “Items recovered from them include different brands and models of exotic vehicles, smart phones, smart wrist watches, international passports, ATM cards of different banks and laptops containing incriminating materials and documents.”

The Commission assured that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

“Upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged to court,” the EFCC said.

The anti-graft agency reiterated its commitment to combating the growing scourge of cybercrime across the country.

“The EFCC will not relent in its fight against economic and financial crimes, especially cybercrimes, which continue to undermine the integrity of our digital economy,” the statement read.
