India deports eight Nigerians over invalid visas
The Indian authorities have deported eight Nigerians staying illegally in the Dwarka area of Delhi, the capital of the country.
According to a popular online newspaper in India, The Indian Express, the eight Nigerians were arrested by the Delhi police.
Two other foreign nationals from Ghana and Ivory Coast were deported alongside the Nigerians after investigations revealed they had resided in India without valid visas.
All the illegal immigrants were nabbed in February and detained until a probe launched into their cases was concluded last week.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), Ankit Singh, said they were apprehended in the Vipin Garden area near Poswal Chowk, Mohan Garden, following a tip-off.
PUNCH Diaspora Tales gathered that the Nigerians were identified as James Chibuike (34), Kwatpan Dalang (25), Nnamdi Uduaka (32), Chijioke Onumajuru (48), Destiny Michael (25), Chris Nwachi (43), Precious (35) and Ejike Obadi (32).
The Ghanaian and Ivorian among them were identified as Andrews Kwabena (36) and Michel Okou (36), respectively.
It was learnt that the suspects had been living illegally in Delhi, India, since 2020 and changed their addresses regularly after their visas expired.
The arrested Nigerians were charged as the Foreigners Regional Registration Office issued the deportation orders.
