Nigerian governor hands over power to deputy

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has handed over power to his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, as he begins his three-week annual leave from March 11 to April 8, 2025.

The governor officially informed the Cross River State House of Assembly of his plans through a letter dated March 10, which was addressed to the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem.

In the letter, the governor stated that he would be unavailable to attend to official duties during the leave period.

To ensure the smooth running of government affairs, he assigned his deputy to act on his behalf and make necessary decisions until he resumes.

During a plenary session, the State House of Assembly read the letter and granted approval for the governor’s leave.

This marks the first time he is taking official leave since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.

With this development, Dr. Odey will oversee governance in Cross River State, handling administrative responsibilities and other official matters until Governor Otu returns.
