APC to discuss Ganduje’s stewardship at Wednesday’s NEC meeting

As the countdown to Wednesday’s National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress begins, Sunday PUNCH has exclusively gathered that the crucial session will be dominated by a series of activities ranging from account audit, the stewardship of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and briefing on the just concluded off-cycle elections in Edo and Ondo states.

These activities form part of the agenda for the NEC meeting, as sighted in a document by our correspondent.

Other items listed on the agenda included the party’s budget proposal for 2025, a briefing on the arrangement for the November governorship election in Anambra, payment of dues by federal appointees and APC lawmakers, an update on the ongoing e-membership registration and a short presentation on the newly established Progressive Institute.

A source at the party secretariat said, “It is just a tea party where nothing unusual will be discussed. That also goes for some media people who are probably thinking it may herald an official sign-off for the rumoured exit of the National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje. It is not going to happen

“It is just to fulfil all righteousness and ward off pressure from the like of El-Rufai trying to play politics with it. Ordinarily, as you rightly observed, the APC leadership ought to call for NEC meetings to be held at least once each quarter to review the power given to them.

“Unlike the last leadership where (Salihu) Lukman refused to give the former chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, a breathing space, this current NWC has little or nothing to fight over.”

The planned gathering of the APC bigwigs and party stakeholders would be the first since Ganduje took over the leadership of the National Working Committee.

Recall that the appointment of both the former Kano governor and the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru were ratified at the last NEC held at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on August 3, 2023.

Ganduje had called for the long-awaited National Caucus and NEC meetings, which were postponed last year to be held next Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Our correspondent gathered through a leaked memo signed by Basiru that while the National Caucus meeting will take place at the Presidential Villa banquet hall on February 25, the party national secretariat in Abuja will host the NEC the next day.

The crucial sessions of the two statutory organs of the party are expected to be chaired by President Bola Tiinubu and would also have Vice President Kashim Shettima and former President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance.
