Sacked UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Withdraws Suit Against Education Minister

SaharaReporters had reported that Odoh, a former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State has dragged the Minister of Education before a Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the legality in his removal as Vice Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Bernard Odoh who was sacked as the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra State has filed a Notice of Discontinuance of suit seeking to stopping the Minister of Education from taking any further step to re-constitute the Council or Governing Council of the University.

On February 7, SaharaReporters had reported that Odoh, a former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi State has dragged the Minister of Education before a Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the legality in his removal as Vice Chancellor of the University.

SaharaReporters reports that President Bola Tinubu on November 20, 2024 announced dissolution of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, and removed its newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh, and Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Nwokike.

But Odoh, in an ex-parte application and motion on Notice, had sought for an order stopping the Defendants from taking any further step to re-constitute the Council or Governing Council of the University pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed along the application.

However, barely three days of filing the application which a date has not fixed, Odoh on Monday filed a “Notice of Discontinuance,” citing Order 50 Rule 2 (1), Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019).

The court document, which SaharaReporters obtained on Monday evening, shows that Odoh through his team of lawyers led by Professor Chimezie Kingsley Okorie, SAN, C.E Ibekwe, Esq and C.O Ikerionwu Esq filed the application.

“TAKE NOTICE that the plaintiffs hereby withdraw the suite against Defendants and discontinue this Suit in its entirety.”
