ICPC Arraigns Ministry Of Labour Official For Alleged Job Racketeering

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a Ministry of Labour and Employment official, Takat Williams Sabo, over allegations of job racketeering.
Sabo appeared before Justice S. M. Mayana of the Federal Capital Territory High Court 43 in Apo, Abuja, on Thursday, facing a two-count charge of defrauding a job seeker of ₦800,000 under the false pretence of securing employment in the Federal Civil Service Commission.
According to ICPC counsel Agbili Ezenwa Kingsley, the accused person allegedly obtained the money from a victim, John Daniel, in June 2021, while serving as a public officer.
The charge sheet stated that Sabo used his position to confer a corrupt advantage upon himself by accepting the funds through an intermediary, Kyauta Mohammed.
The offences are contrary to Sections 18 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
Sabo pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defence counsel, O. I. Aneneh, requested bail, assuring the court that his client would attend trial. The ICPC did not oppose the request but insisted on strict conditions to guarantee his court appearance.
Justice Mayana granted bail in the sum of ₦20 million, with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide affidavits verifying their legitimate sources of income.
The case has been adjourned to April 10, 2025, for trial.
