Former Governor to remain in custody as Court refuses to grant bail
The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has refused to grant bail to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Justice Maryanne Anenih struck out the bail application on the ground that it was filed as of the time the former governor was yet to be taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bello is facing multiple charges of alleged financial misconduct.
Bello, along with Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, is accused of involvement in the mismanagement of N110.4 billion in public funds.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged them with a 16-count indictment under case number FCT/HC/CR/778/24, which includes allegations of criminal breach of trust.
Arrested and detained since November 27, Bello was brought to the Maitama court under tight security.
His legal team had sought bail during a hearing before the court, but the request was rejected, leaving him in EFCC custody pending further proceedings.
