BREAKING: Nigerian army debunks death rumour of Lagbaja
The Defence Headquarters has debunked the death rumour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
A post from an X personality, Jackson Ude on Sunday claimed the army chief passed away in an undisclosed overseas hospital nearly 48 hours ago.
According to the post, Lagbaja succumbed to stage three cancer, a diagnosis that had been kept private.
Disclosing this development, the Army spokesman, Onyema Nwachukwu, said there is a laid down process that ensures no vacuum in the leadership structure.
Nwachukwu said the Army Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, would act on behalf of the COAS during his absence.
