A Plea for the Reinstatement of Dr. Betta Edu

Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,

I am compelled to write to you as a concerned Nigerian, advocating for the reinstatement of one of our nation’s most committed public servants and a passionate advocate for women, the vulnerable, and the marginalized — Dr. Betta Edu. As the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, her brief but impactful tenure displayed her unmatched capacity for leadership, compassion, and the ability to deliver tangible results.

Dr. Betta Edu has been a committed member of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). As the National Women Leader, she played a pivotal role in galvanizing support for your campaign, mobilizing millions of women across Nigeria to believe in the Renewed Hope agenda. She organized grassroots movements, fostering an inclusive political environment for women and championing their active participation in the democratic process.

Her qualifications and professional background speak for themselves. A medical doctor with years of experience in public health, governance, and humanitarian work, Dr. Edu has demonstrated her capacity to handle the complexities of her portfolio. As Minister, she quickly showed her ability to bring innovative solutions to the table, particularly in mobilizing funding from multilevel agencies and development partners. Her competence in this area indicated that under her leadership, the ministry would have scaled new heights in addressing Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges.

Dr. Betta Edu’s ability to reach out to vulnerable people in different parts of the country, regardless of ethnicity or status, set her apart. Her early initiatives showed that she was on the path to becoming one of the best-performing ministers in this administration. The impact of her humanitarian outreach was already being felt across the country, and the goodwill her ministry could have brought to your Renewed Hope agenda is now sorely missed.

Today, as our nation grapples with multiple humanitarian crises, from natural disasters to internal displacements, there is a palpable void in the coordinated response that Dr. Edu’s ministry would have provided. Her presence at the helm of affairs would have been a significant asset in addressing the dire situations many Nigerians currently face.

We, therefore, humbly request that, in the proposed cabinet reshuffle, the reinstatement of Dr. Betta Edu be given priority. If there has been no indication of wrongdoing on her part, we believe that her dedication, competence, and passion for serving the Nigerian people make her indispensable in this crucial ministry. Nigerians earnestly call for your magnanimous gesture in bringing back Dr. Betta Edu to continue the critical work she began for the good of our nation.
