OPEN LETTER TO
(HON, OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO) ON FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE

The Honourable Minister of Interior
Federal Ministry of Interior
Abuja, Nigeria.

Dear Honourable Minister,

I am writing to draw your attention to the lackadaisical attitude of the Comptroller-General of the Federal Fire Service (CGF) towards sensitive issues of disaster management, particularly in the recent devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The CGF’s absence and inaction in the face of this disaster are appalling. There has been no emergency media briefing, no visit to Maiduguri to assess the situation, and no interaction with the Borno State government to discuss solutions. This is unacceptable and demonstrates a clear lack of leadership and incompetence.

As you are aware, the Federal Fire Service is responsible for ensuring public safety, and it is the CGF’s duty to uphold professionalism in this area. However, the current CGF has failed woefully, allowing the Army and other security agencies to perform FFS work. This is a clear indication of a lack of effective leadership and a need for change.

I implore you, Honourable Minister, to take note of this situation and consider replacing the current CGF with a more capable and competent leader. The Federal Fire Service requires a leader who can take charge, make decisions, and ensure that the service functions effectively.

I hope you will take this matter seriously and take appropriate action to address the shortcomings of the current CGF.

Sincerely, Adamu B
