2024 admission into public schools, Ondo Commissioner warns against collection of unapproved levies*
The Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olaolu Akindolire has warned heads of public schools in the state against collecting unapproved levies from admission seekers into the State’s Public Primary and Secondary Schools.
The Commissioner was reacting to reports alleging that some schools heads were charging extra levies outside the ones approved by the state government as collectibles during the ongoing 2024 admission exercise.
He maintained that the state government had made available the approved list of collectibles in both public primary and secondary schools to all principals, headmasters and other heads of public institutions across the state, and warned against putting additional burden on parents.
According to the circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Folasade Adegoke, the total amount of collectibles from new intake into public primary schools was put at N5,000, while new intakes into public secondary school are to pay a total of not more than N14,000.
The amount, as contained in the circular, covers PTA levy, Examinations, ICT, Sports development, utility, medical, security, entrepreneur/agric, CASS, running expenses and administrative charges for external examinations among others.
The circular also directed all new intakes to come to their school of choice with the following items: one hoe, one cutlass, a locker and a chair, a broom and two file jackets during the registration exercise.
Mr. Akindolire therefore warned that no school heads has the mandate to collect money for textbooks, school uniform, but to provide parents/guardians with the sample of recommended uniform and list of recommended text books.
The Commissioner cautioned School Principals and Headteachers against collecting other items from the prospecting students, or charging additional levy outside the ones approved by the state government and as contained in the circular.
