Four Hoodlums Arrested In Abuja Suburb For Attempting To Raze Police Station During Protest

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked the report which claimed that Nyanya Police Division in the capital city was set ablaze by protesters.

Report making rounds on social media and some sections of media had claimed that #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters burnt down the Nyanya Police Division on Thursday.

However, reacting to the report, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the police division was not set ablaze as claimed.

The police spokesperson said that four suspects set the police container compartment at Nyanya checkpoint ablaze and attempted to vandalise the Tipper garage police post.

Adeh, who said that the four suspects had been arrested identified them as 29-year-old Mathias Jude of Nyanya Area D, 23-year-old Mohammad Ahmed, Abba 18-year-old Jibril and 18-year-old Mohammad Haruna.

Adeh in a statement said, “Contrary to the news making rounds about Nyanya division being burnt down by violent protesters, the FCT police command wishes to state that it wasn’t the police division that was burnt but rather the police container compartment at Nyanya checkpoint that was set ablaze and the attempt to vandalise the Tipper garage Police post by four (4) suspects, Mathias Jude 29 ‘m’ of Nyanya Area D, Mohammad Ahmed 23, Abba Jibril 18 and Mohammad Haruna 18, who have been arrested.

“The Commissioner of Police FCT, Benneth Igweh, while acknowledging the right of residents to protest, frowns at destruction of public or police infrastructure, as any violent protester arrested for destroying public property will be caused to face the wrath of the law.”
