NYSC Restates Sanctions For Corps Members Caught On Unauthorised Travels

In a press statement issued on Thursday by Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, the scheme warned that corps members that embarked on an unauthorised journey would be punished.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reinstated that any serving corps member that decides to travel must first get approval from the scheme.

In a press statement issued on Thursday by Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, the scheme warned that corps members that embarked on an unauthorised journey would be punished.

The statement read, “The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed gave the warning during his visit to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Corps Members in Bayelsa State Orientation Camp, Boro, and Rivers State Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam in Tai Local Government Area of the State.

“He said any Corps Member that travels without obtaining permission from NYSC would be dealt with according to NYSC bye laws.

“He also urged them to be security conscious at all times, adding that they must avoid youthful adventures that can put them in harm’s way.

“General Ahmed advised the Corps Members to add value to their Place of Primary Assignments, serve their host communities diligently and execute laudable projects that would improve the standard of living of the residents.

“You must attend all the lectures in camp. Maintain good relationship among yourselves and add value to your host communities and place of primary assignments by executing good projects”, he added

The NYSC Bayelsa State Coordinator, Mrs Obiageli Okpalifo in her brief to the Director General said all the Corps Members have adjusted to camp life.

“Similarly, the Rivers State Coordinator, Mr George Mfongang disclosed that the 1,800 registered Corps Members comprising 663 males and 1,137 females have exceptionally displayed high level of patriotism, discipline, commitment, enthusiasm and respect for the constituted authority.”
