Earlier today, I made a presentation at the 2024 annual meeting of ECOWAS Women Peace and Security Regional Steering Group in Abuja with the theme: Sustaining the Momentum Towards Monitoring and Reporting on Women, Peace and Security Agenda Using Continental Results Framework”. It is instructive to note that as signatory to several commitments of the UN, Nigeria has taken further steps to domesticate the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in 2013 by the development of the 1st and 2nd national Action Plan while the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has strongly aligned to this resolution. I am also personally delighted that Nigeria has made remarkable progress in this regard which included localization of the Action Plan in 16 States of the Federation in addition to other laudable initiatives and policies that promotes gender inclusion and women’s peace and security. As I commend ECOWAS and other relevant stakeholders on this collective drive, we earnestly look forward to scaled up activities and concrete engagements starting the Zonal consultation for the development of Nigeria’s 3rd Action Plan on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
