FG Initiating Measures to Alleviate Surge in Staple Food Prices – Minister Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, acknowledges the Federal Government’s awareness of the escalating prices of staple foods in the markets

He made this revelation during the 2024 conference and annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Niger State chapter, in Minna on Tuesday.

The conference’s theme was “Public Relations in a Challenging Environment: The role of Stakeholders and Communication in a New Niger Agenda.

Idris, represented by Malam Jibrin Ndace, Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), stated that practical measures were being implemented to alleviate the situation.

He mentioned that the President had instructed the NSA, DSS, and IGP to collaborate with state governors to monitor the activities of individuals hoarding food commodities to ensure price stabilization.

“On behalf of the Federal Government, I commend the efforts of Niger State Gov. Umaru Bago for his timely decision to halt the bulk purchase of food items for hoarding.

“This undoubtedly contributed to the recent reduction in the cost of food items in the state,” he remarked.

He highlighted that in the last seven months, the president had been steadfast in efforts to revive the economy, combat insecurity, attract foreign direct investment, and uphold Nigeria’s foreign policy principles on the global stage.

The minister reaffirmed that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was steadfast in its commitment to ensuring Nigeria remains a true African giant.

Dr. Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger, expressed optimism about the revitalization of NIPR and expressed confidence in the chapter’s potential to lead by example. (NAN)
