In response to concerns raised by Hon. Kingsley Ntui Isong, the Assembly has called for an immediate suspension of the ongoing recruitment exercise.
The Assembly, through a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mathew Okache, highlighted the issue of unequal distribution of job opportunities across the state’s 18 local government areas. It was revealed that the Forestry Commission’s list of over 350 hires showed a clear bias towards certain areas, neglecting others. They expressed disappointment at the apparent favoritism shown by the Forestry Commission, especially in light of recent legislation aimed at providing employment opportunities for the state’s citizens.
To address these concerns, the Assembly has established a special committee to investigate the operations of the Forestry Commission, particularly its hiring practices. The committee, comprised of members from various constituencies, will delve into allegations of unfairness and bias in the recruitment process. Rt. Hon. Francis Asuquo Bassey, Leader (Odukpani), Rt. Hon. Davies Etta (Abi), Honourable Victor Ekpenyong Nsa (Cal. South II), Honourable Omang Omang (Bekwara), Honourable Odey Brian Wonah (Yala I), Honourable Martins Achadu (Yala II), Honourable Egbe Abeng Egbe (Obubra II), and Honourable Samuel Neji Abang (Ikom I) are among the committee members tasked with addressing these abnormalities.
