Lagos Emergency Agency, LASEMA Confirms Fire Outbreak In Lekki Community

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at, Ikate-Elegushi, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

 

It was learnt that the fire emanated from one of the shanty rooms, and subsequently escalated to other rooms, then adjoining buildings within the estate in the area.

 

LASEMA disclosed this on Monday in a statement signed by Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, noting that it activated the State Emergency Response Plans after receiving distress calls via it’s Toll Free Emergency numbers around 11: 21pm on Sunday.

 

According to the statement, no loss of life at the incident scene, nor injury sustained to responders as a result of the inferno.

 

The statement reads in part; “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, received distress calls via it’s Toll Free Emergency numbers 767/112 at 2321hrs, and activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans.

 

“The LASEMA Response Team from Lekki Base arrived the incident scene at 2350hrs, while, the elite LASEMA Fire Unit also responded from the the Agency’s hub at Cappa Base.

 

“On arrival of the response teams, it was observed that some shanties behind an estate was engulfed by fire at the aforementioned address.

 

“Further investigation conducted revealed that the fire emanated from one of the shanty rooms, subsequently escalated to other rooms, then adjoining buildings within the estate at the aforementioned location.

 

“No loss of life (s) at the incident scene, nor injury (s) sustained to responders as a result of the inferno.

 

“Cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of writing this report.

 

“Status: The fire has been brought under control and completely put out through joint effort of all responders at the incident scene.

 

“Dampening down, operation is concluded.

 

“Properties worth a fortune were destroyed by the inferno. Post Disaster Assessment is in progress.

 

“In Attendance: LASEMA Response Team, the Agency’s Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Estate Fire Department and the Nigerian Police Force,” the statement added.
