This was confirmed by the spokesman for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin in a post on his X handle on Monday morning, disclosing that the baby had been handed over to his family.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a home help who attempted to sell her boss’ baby to a potential buyer for the sum of N800,000 in Alade market, Shomolu, Lagos State.

This was confirmed by the spokesman for the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin in a post on his X handle on Monday morning, disclosing that the baby had been handed over to his family.

He said that efforts were ongoing to arrest the potential buyer.

He wrote: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her. Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”

The news about the abduction of the infant was first made public by an X user, Mide-Bomaye who identified the domestic help as Ruth Okezie.

Giving an update on the issue, Mide-Bomaye confirmed that the baby had been reunited with his family by the police in his recent post on X.

He wrote: “I made a tweet over the weekend in regards to baby stolen by the househelp. I’m glad to notify everyone that the baby was found this morning at Shomoulu. Many thanks to everyone and the police in helping. The baby is united with the family.”

In a related incident. In January, SaharaReporters reported how the police paraded a suspected human trafficker who sold a baby for N400,000.

The suspect was paraded along with 15 other suspects for engaging in trafficking in Gombe State.

ASP Mahid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the state police command described the case as a criminal conspiracy.

He revealed that one Khadija Shehu-Manzo colluded with 15 others including a staff member of Gombe Local Government Area to commit the crime.

He said the suspects were nabbed following an intelligence report from the Barunde community.
