Just In : Police arrest Plateau g√nrunner, k!dnappers, others

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a Plateau State-based gunrunner; and other suspects for crimes ranging from culpable homicide, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

Details of their arrests was revealed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja on Friday, during the parade of about 20 suspects arrested for kidnappings and armed robberies across the country.

Adejobi said, “On January 21, 2024, at about 11:50 am, an Intelligence Report was received from Technical Intelligence Unit, FHQ, Abuja about the activities of a syndrome fabricator/gun runners operating in Plateau State.

On receipt of the intel, IRT operatives on special duty in the state tracked and arrested the two members of the syndicate, namely: Pam Chung and Jacob Fwangne both male of different addresses in Jos South LGA.

“During investigation, the said Jacob Chung confessed that he has been in the business of fabricating locally made revolver guns for the past five years, while the said Jacob Fwangne bought two of the guns from him at the rate of N40,000 and N50,000 respectively. Four locally fabricated revolver guns of G3 ammunition and cartridges carrier calibers were recovered from the said Pam Chung.

He noted that normalcy was returning to troubled placed across the country following the additional tactical deployments of both human and material resources by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.

He further revealed that police joint operations with the military, local vigilantes and other security outfits in January, have led to the arrests of scores of criminals, and the rescue of several kidnap victims across the country, who have all been reunited with their families.

Giving update, Adejobi disclosed that some people suspected to be suppliers of ammunition to the terrorists were apprehended on the Abuja-Kaduna highway on January 24.

He said operatives of the DFI-IRT working on intelligence subsequently intercepted the groups of persons while on their way along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

Specifically, the senior cop noted that they were suspected to be major suppliers of arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Niger State, Zamfara State and Kaduna State.

Adejobi added, “The suspects, upon arrest and consequent interrogation confessed to the crimes. One of the suspects, Ibrahim Hussaini is currently in custody while the other two suspects are leading the IRT operatives to their hideouts where they store their weapons for distribution.”

Speaking about illicit riffles and ammunitions recovered, he said, “Before you are three GPR Chargers, two AK-47 rifles, one Type-06, four Local Fabricates, one Berretta pistol, two Makarov pistols, four Local fabricated pump actions, 504 pieces of AK-47 ammunitions and 100 pieces of AA ammunitions.”
